What is parking like at the Chalet?

The Chalet has parking for 4 vehicles and 2 trailers. Please note: the last road and our driveway are gravel, and the neighborhood speed limit is 12 MPH.

What water sports equipment are available at the Chalet?

Carry-in

Carry-in for kayaks, canoes, and small light water craft, can be done at the Chalet dock.

Where is the closest boat launch?

Large trailered boats can be launched about 5 miles upstream at the Pelican Rapids Boat Launch, Rhinelander, WI, south of downtown on Boyce Dr between US Hwy 8 and Kemp Street right at the Pelican River as it meets the Wisconsin River.

 

We launch our 14’ Silvan V-Haul there, then traverse the river downstream, staying in the middle of the channel at a leisurely, slow speed (for safety and to enjoy the boat ride).

 

We use onboard electronic depth finders with GPS that track the original river bed, which is the safest way to avoid stumps and rocks.

Are you on a snowmobile trail?

The Chalet is located between 2 snowmobile trailheads: a trailhead in the City of Rhinelander with trailer parking, and at Fisher’s Bar 12 miles south on Hwy 17 (N11209 State Rd 17, Gleason 54435).

Where is the nearest ice fishing?

We are on the Wisconsin River, which has frozen over in our small inlet every year, and ice fishing has been excellent for Northern pike and walleye.

​

 

Can I bring my laptops and is there wifi?

The wifi works well. Occasionally, the modem needs a reboot to fix any connectivity or speed issues. 

​

Cell phone coverage can vary by carrier. We turn on wifi calling and have no issues.

​

We have a desk, monitor and a B/W HP LaserJet printer (USB connection) in the loft office for your convenience.

​

The DSL service is provided by Frontier with a speed of 15 mbps download and around 2 mbps upload. It has been proven sufficient for multiple devices all streaming simultaneously.

​

 

What streaming services are available? Is there cable?

There is no cable or satellite TV but there is an omnidirectional antenna which brings in Wausau and Rhinelander stations that cover the 5 major broadcast networks - 7.1 CBS, 7.3 FOX, 9.1 ABC, 12.1 NBC & 36.1-4 PBS.

We recommend you bring your own streaming device for cable channels or sign up for free trials of  Sling TV, YouTubeTV, etc. We have had great success with the Great Room and Family Room TVs working with Chromecast, Roku Streaming Stick, Fire TV Stick 4K, and especially a laptop with an HDMI cord.

​

In the Great Room, there is a 40” 2014 Samsung Smart TV with minimal apps installed; Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, Amazon Prime. It does not include Disney+, TwitchTV, YouTube TV, and other newer apps.

​

In the basement is a 24” flat screen which receives the broadcast channels and has a Nintendo Wii connected.
